East London has become known as a centre for the arts within the city, with a growing network of artists, galleries and organisations setting up in the area, reflecting a developing creative reputation. Now, larger scale creative organisations are seeking to move east, with plans of a cultural quarter to be set up in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Championed by the Mayor of London, and backed by over £140million investment from government, it is expected that this will bring over 3000 jobs, 1.5 million additional visitors and £2.8billion of economic value to Stratford and the surrounding area. The aim is to create a new model of how cultural and educational organisations work in the future, with increased collaboration, a real sense of connection with the local community and a real intention to support emerging talent. The Arts Award gives young people the opportunity to explore, enjoy and benefit from the world class cultural offer on their doorstep, linking them with creative organisations and professionals as well as helping them to develop their own creativity and leadership skills through a valued accreditation. The aim of the East London Arts Award Network is to bring together Arts Award advisers, centres and supporters, with artists and art organisations, to share best practice and develop new ideas and approaches to the Arts Award . By developing new partnerships between the arts award and the arts sector in East London, young people taking part in the award will be able to gain access to new emerging opportunities within the area for their future benefit, skills development and enjoyment.
