Making links with artists and arts organisations
I am fortunate at the Rochester Grammar School to be linked to the venue we have (the Thorndike Arts Centre), through this we offer the students, who buy tickets to the events, an opportunity to meet the professional artists who come and play here and conduct interviews for their practice and pathways section of their award. We make it part of the agreement with the artist before booking them that this is how we like to operate. When we had Clive Carroll play here he did a seperate workshop for students and customers who booked in advance, bringing the arts into the community too.
Having a venue also gives students the opportunity to see how things like load ins, get outs, sound checks and in show sound and lighting are conducted - Useful for gold students planning their events.

We've been lucky, just by being cheeky and emailing artist through their websites. When you explain to the artists about the Arts Award they are often really happy to be involved.
e.g Two of my 6th form students have been chatting with some of the cast of Les Mis and we are taking all of them to watch the show and participate in some workshops.
